THE PROMISE OF BALDRIGE FOR K-12 EDUCATION: ACT POLICY REPORT

This study was completed as part of the ACT Quality Award Program for Quality Education New Jersey and Asbury Park High School, NJ.  This report examines the information available on improving school quality through implementation of the Baldrige Criteria.   It is intended to provide useful information about the current state of Baldrige applications and to make specific recommendations regarding potential Baldrige K-12 implementation, evaluation, and research.

This study includes data of the outcomes of Baldrige improvement implementations for school districts in New Jersey, North Carolina, New Mexico, Michigan, Maryland, Ohio, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Indiana.  Additionally, this study includes examples from the 2001 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in Education winners, Pearl River School District in New York and Chugach School District in Alaska.

The study results in some key recommendations for Educators, Policymakers, and Researchers that will make the implementation of Baldrige Criteria more successful in districts that are considering using this strategy to address improvement efforts.
