Planning for Performance Excellence: A Baldrige-Based Approach to Department Improvement Planning

Purpose: To provide the knowledge and structure to align department plans and supporting improvement processes using a systems approach to

continuous improvement.

 

Expected Outcomes:

· Increased understanding of a systems approach to continuous improvement.

· Increased understanding of the role of the department improvement plan in a system committed to
   achieving performance excellence

· Increased understanding of on going cycles of department process improvement through the use of the
   Plan-Do-Study-Act Cycle

· Assessment of the department as a system

· A process to draft department goals, measures, and an action plan for the department

· A process to draft goals, measures, and an action plan for individuals

· Tools to begin a process improvement project using PDSA

Department Leadership Teams

 

Participant Prerequisites:

Successful completion of appropriate awareness-level training such as  Orientation to Performance Excellence and Continuous Classroom Improvement

1 day

· Department þ Systems Check II or III

· Department improvement planning requirements from the state/district and/or accrediting body
